THE COALITION DINNER AT MANDARIN GALLERY.

Another week, another round of meeting and feast at the Mandarin Gallery. This time our circle expanded, ‘Miss Glitzy Monologue’, and ‘Story of A Dot’ joined in!

We sat down for a quiet dinner (not until I open my mouth that is!) at Thai Thai— Royal Thai Cuisine. The interior, like the name suggested, was fit for a royalty. Service was excellent and definately worth every dollar paid. For appetizers, I had a platter of unfamiliar food; soft shell crab, crackers topped with chicken floss and betel leaf wrapped with lotus flower, sprinkles of toasted coconut and topped with shrimp paste. I had flashback of how my mum used to rub betel leaf on my mouth except this one was a burst of flavors, not tears. For entrée, Bagaholicboy and Ridhwan ate something with Poo. I repeat, they both ate Poo. (Poo means crab. Spelt with a ‘b’ not ‘p’. Hah.)

And my favorite part? It had to be dessert at Jones The Grocer! We ordered the ahem, ‘usual’ consisting of chocolate and vanilla ice cream topped with biscuit, cheese platter, fruit tarts, berries cheesecake, fruit shakes, tea and oh god I can’t remember, there were too many! We didn’t get to finish most of it and how I wished I had the leftovers with me now. Should have let my aunty instinct kick in and packed the leftovers next time.

Speaking of next time, till then! Oh by-the-way, The Coalition is coming to a playhouse near you.

BLOGGER'S DINNER AT JONES THE GROCER.

It’s about time us Bloggers sat down for dinner, it’s been way too long! Bagaholicboy, Rock The Trend & one of the WottonCool duo was there to grace the lovely dinner. Unfortunately for the other half of the WottonCool duo, her arm went kaput. I heard she got into a fight while shopping at a sale. (Okay, I was kidding about that)

We catch up on stories and discuss upcoming projects, lots to eat but I was served a bowl of grass. Can you see the disappointment on my face? Grass, cheese and four slices of pear. Yummy!

DONNA KARAN: THE FUTURE OF FASHION SYSTEM.

Our friend at Curious Foodie has invited us (by us I mean you and me. Your opinion in the comment box is a sign of your unconditional love for me.) to join in a dialogue regarding the future of what seems worth discussing. Oh yes, let’s make this space even more heated; one or two angry soul won’t hurt anyone only me. So, lets speak of the collaboration of fashion bloggers and the fashion industry in general.

Earlier this month, Donna Karan sat down at Parsons discussing the future of fashion (and indirectly discussing about how bloggers are affecting the industry). She took the words right our of my mouth:

In the movie industry, the consumer doesn't know about the movies until they're ready to come out. Why do we give the consumer so much information about fashion six or seven months beforehand? It makes no sense to me. We need fashion shows, but that's industry, it's not for the general public. All the communication has to stop. It doesn't go out on the wire, it doesn't go out on the Internet, it doesn't get out for the manufacturers to copy the designs. I mean, we're killing our own industry. There's too much information going out there. We have to learn the word restriction.

As much as I hate to disagree because as a blogger getting information beforehand is how we obtain the ‘blogshere status’ but, the truth is and you’re ignorant if you have not seen it yet, we are killing our own (fashion/fashion blogger) industry. My theory is simple – we’re taking the advances of today’s for granted. It only takes one designer to reach out to a certain blogger and affect the whole system. Unknowingly to some designer these marketing strategies of theirs might have ripple effect to the rest of the industry.

I mean hello, a journalist who had been working for 30 years sitting behind a girl whose age is barely half the years of the journalist’s experience at a fashion show? Not only we are destroying the fashion industry but also the traditional media and our blogsphere. Haven’t you notice that fashion bloggers are becoming twitter-ers now? And that we don’t speak our mind anymore because some of our souls are sold to a certain brand.

Now even your neighbor’s cat can ‘love’ fashion. Why? Because brands are making it easier for the general public with the advance of technology via live streaming. Live streaming really? Now that luxury fashion no longer means anything, do we really need to share this exclusivity with everyone too?

To upstage one another, fashion houses/brands are planning on various marketing plan. Haven’t you heard that Burberry is live streaming in 3-dimesional? I am against the idea mainly because manipulating our visuals of the clothes just doesn’t seem right. I call that daylight robbery. Introducing this might just reduce the quality of what was a great craftsmanship because these new method of showing clothes can hide flaws and enhance anything.

As a blogger I know that it is a contradiction, for me to say this but I truly believe that with live streaming, minute-by-minute twittering and etc are too much. Everyone will gain now but the way I see it, these brands are hurting the industry in the long run. The future is unclear but I definitely see a revolutionary for the industry, good or bad I wouldn’t know.

NYC FASHION BLOGGER CONFERENCE.

No one care to send a representative from Singapore, not even Nuffnang (They’re busy sending Xiaxue to Disney Land and everywhere else that they've forgotten that fashion blogger exists. I'm obsessed with her! ) or the ‘Association of Bloggers Singapore’. (Haha LOL to that!)

The last time someone represent Singapore (to a blogger event, in Paris mind you) was this person whose blog is probably dead now.

Forget it. Change this post title to ‘LEAVE TAVI ALONE’. Like seriously LEAVE GRANNY TAVI ALONE! Or else I’ll ask the heaviest of the Mulleavy sisters to sit on yo’ face and make sweaters with your bones.

"At the Dior show, trying to fight my way backstage to get a quote from John Galliano, I nearly fell over a tiny, grey-haired woman who, from the back, I took to be a septuagenarian Japanese fashion fanatic, as she was dressed head-to-toe in Comme des Garçons. When she was ushered into the inner sanctum before me, and turned around, I saw, with a sick lurch, that it was actually Tavi Gevinson, the 14-year-old fashion blogger from Chicago. She was being shadowed by her father, an English teacher, and has recently dyed her hair the trendiest colour.

As a mother of a 14-year-old, my first thought was,“Hang on, isn’t it term-time in America, too?”. Had I not been so busy trying to attract Galliano’s attention, I would have asked Mr Gevinson why he thought it was right to take his daughter out of school to go to haute couture shows, where she would be treated like a celebrity by paparazzi? Or why he thought it OK for her to model for Pop and Love magazines last year?

I don’t dispute that his child is a prodigy, and that her blog, which she started without her parents’ knowledge in 2008, at the age of 11, is mind-blowingly creative, well-informed and sparkling with the integrity of a truly independent, original voice.

Or, rather, that it was. Checking her blog to see what she’d thought of her couture experience this week, I see she says she can’t write about it because she’s tied up to an exclusive with Pop. It seems fashion’s favourite wunderkind has been sucked into the system in record time, the charm of her indie-voice silenced, having been appropriated and paid for by the traditional print media.
It’s all happening too fast for Tavi, and I wonder if her father knows how to protect her from it. I hope she’s got her nose to the grindstone, catching up with missed lessons this week, but it’s hard to imagine a kid being able to come back down to reality after that."

Okay so her hat is upsetting to some people but can we move on with our lives already? There’s millions of homeless struggling by the roadside in the third world but why are we ranting about putting her back in school or get SO upset over the fact that granny Tavi was at a couture show. Just see it as an investment or an internship or whatever. She’s doing what she love and these experiences will help her with her career. When was the last time you were happy for someone else’s success? Never?

Like many others, I IZ JELUZ but in a way, I’m kind of happy for her? Like in Singapore I’ve been ‘disrespected’ by some people when I go to events but seriously it’s a new generation, embrace it! I’m sorry to disappoint, showing up looking fresh instead of the 50 something year old that you’re expecting.

I’m team Tavi all the way! As a matter of fact, im creating a Tavi Gevinson fanpage on Facebook.

BURBERRY ION- BLOGGER FIELD TRIP.

Okay so I was still, according to BagaholicBoy, ‘foaming at the mouth’ after receiving the news that we’re actually going to have a one in a million chance to meet Christopher Bailey-- And then we (Fash-E, RTT, BB and WottonCool girls) were told that we’re going to have a tour around the boutique, that made me foam even more! It was not 31 Rue Cambon but i imagined it to be as fantastic.

The motive of the tour was to pick an outfit so we could wear it on the actual event (live blogging at Burberry) and to do a fun ‘promotional shoot’ to promote the event. (Will blog about it on a separate post) That didn’t exactly happen but we had so much fun and I even more fun bragging about it. Hah. I mean, when will I ever get the chance to sit in their VIP room again no? Or when will I ever have the chance to try on ten different trench coats that’s worth 3k each (!) in an hour?! Since that awesomely-iest day, I’ve been dreaming about Burberry for almost a month.

All I need now is to attend a Burberry show in London next February and life would be a full circle moment. Ok, fat hope but I’ll keep on dreaming and writing to Oprah so she would send me there!

UNIQLO, ION ORCHARD OFFICIAL OPENING.

Yesterday was the unveiling of UNIQLO’s FW 09 Collection and the introduction of faux leather called NEOLEATHER. You know, the one with my identical twin brother Sean O’pry. Yeah, that one.

Media Flair Communications, a public relation company invited OneSixtyNotepad and readers, to have the first look at the collection, even before it hits the stores in Japan! So, consider yourself lucky. Hah.

We were given a hundred dollars each to spend and I got myself a few tops and a wool blazer! For now, I won’t come to a press event that doesn’t entitle to a shopping spree! Kidding, or at least have fancy drinks and food like they do.

It was my first time to UNIQLO and I have to say, it provides the best service to its customers. (I’m not saying this because of the shopping spree) Although, I must say the repeated greetings is too much, the staff were really friendly and knowledgeable. What surprises me most was the quality of the products, really good despite having an affordable price tag.

UNIQLO Ion Orchard opens today! A specially designed Tote Bag from UNIQLO that will be given out to customers, who spend above $100 on a single receipt! This bag is not available for purchase on its own and is available while stocks last, specifically for customers of the ION Orchard store.
