FIRST LOOK, PRADA PARAGON RE-OPENS.

Prada has recently announced the re-opening of its much-awaited Paragon store after a 2-months absence along Orchard Road. Guess who got the first peek of the new store space and a step into the exclusive VIP room? We did! It is the first store in South East Asia equipped with a dedicated VIP room and services for Prada’s top customers (I envisioned the song ‘Big Spender’ tuning in the background, don’t ask why.) who prefers to shop in private, complete with a personal shopper! Let me tell you, there are things in there that you’re not able to see on the sales floor hence, that is what I call luxury!

The interior designs of Roberto Baciocchi promises a more spacious and exclusive shopping experience; covering 638 square-meters of Paragon’s mall space, a relatively bigger space as compared to the previous 460 square-meters. The new store offers prêt-à-porter, bags, accessories and footwear collections for both U’omo and Donna.

Privileged for the Prada Paragon store, a collection of 20 vintage dresses from the past revered season were specially flown in and made available. 12 different designs will be on sale with one very special dress, also from the archive, that was adorned by Nicole Kidman for the premiere of her movie. Frets not boys, made-to-measure shirts using fabric from the archive are also available in assorted signature prints.

Prada Paragon officially opens its newly renovated boutique to the masses on 17 December 2010. Head down to experience the latest holiday collection (price starts from SGD800 for a brocade skirt) and get a piece of Mama Muccia’s vintage pieces which is only obtainable for a short period of time. And while you’re at it, get me the foldable travel-friendly vela nylon jacket, will you?

WE'RE ON HARPER'S BAZAAR!

Harper’s Bazaar Singapore recently gathered few of our native rising voices in a dialogue session for its feature story, ‘Singapore’s New Guard’ to commemorate the nation’s 45th year of independence. In attendance were different representations of the industry such as designers, fresh graduates and the all-almighty bloggers. It was also our first appearance together as a team.

In a roundtable discussion, we highlighted about the importance of a solid foundation in a fashion institution to sustain the growth of quality designers and most importantly, tailors and pattern makers. In this day and age, everyone prefers to be his or her own boss and refuse to do the ‘dirty’ job.

As a youth studying in a local institution and as a blogger, I believe that through awareness, we can provide opportunities for the deserving. The so-called corruption is everywhere, even in the blogging scene. What we’ve written on our site is not always a representation of who we are. (But you can count on us for being real…) It is tragic that the blogging scene now is being dictate by one important figure. Along the way, identity of the follower’s site fades. How does this concern the industry, you ask? Let me ask this question back to you: When a hobby turns into money making tool, whose opinion can you trust? I guess it is important for me to deliver content in its purest form to counter these problems.

I applaud Harper’s Bazaar for giving a platform for our voice to be heard despite our young age. I left the discussion with nothing but respect for these people and their achievements. Many thanks to Kim Reyes and her team for making this possible.

WE'RE ON NUYOU!

By far this was the most thrilling (the best is yet to come) interview ever! For every mandarin-speaking person I’ve approached, be it the bookstore manager or a sister’s colleague, none of him or her seems to know the exact translation for this article. The three common words that came out of their mouth were Dutch, blog and fashion. Which is why I say this is the most thrilling because I guess I’ll never know what it says?

So here’s a gist of what I remembered with regards to the interview.

- One item that I want to own from the fall/winter 2010 collection: Look no.4 of Dries Van Noten collection, the jacket worn by Caroline Brasch Nielsen.

-One question I wished readers would ask me but never had the opportunity to answer: ‘How was it really like to be a Blogger.’
The local industry is slowly accepting bloggers as part of the new-age media; we’re struggling in this hierarchy-involved industry. Being young doesn’t help because people do not take you seriously. Apart from that, I am exposing myself for anyone who reads, privacy has always been an issue and they are always people who will bring you down. At the same time, there are also people who appreciate our work. Being a Blogger is harsh yet rewarding.

-5 picks from fall/winter 2010: Prada ‘brow’ eyewear, Balenciaga heels, Marni clog-Wedges, Victoria Beckham dresses and Burberry coat.

That’s all I could remember and from scribbles I found on my notebook!

Personally I don’t buy Nuyou magazine for obvious reasons, I can’t read them but I won’t miss a chance to browse at the dermatologist or the library. My first-bought copies were this issue with Joanne Peh on the cover wearing Celine. Features and editorials are done tastefully but I especially love the layout of the magazine. (For those who don’t know, Nuyou means ‘girlfriend’ and is Singapore’s only Chinese fashion Magazine.)

I feel really honored to be featured, thank you Nuyou!

WE'RE ON CHIC MAGAZINE!

Bought my first copy of CHIC magazine, only because we had a tiny mention on the ‘CLICK PICKS’ column! It failed to report spot-on reviews regarding the individual blogs (I never did a post on flea markets) —nonetheless, thanks to CHIC magazine for the lovely mention!

BRAND NEW HEAVIES, style: AUGUST 2009.

The photographer bestfriend (that’s his new title since he was mentioned in Strait Times Urban) Ridhwan, likes to do foolish thing and embarrasses me in the public. He just had to do that when our picture was taken! There was passerby mind you! I’m shameless most of the time but he never fails to make me blush! Just what I need after a long run down orchard road trying to get our hands on the August Issue of style: magazine! We were told that it’s going to be a spread but we didn’t expect it to be so huge!

So huge, that my mum had to whore the article at the park across our home. Like as if her Indonesian and Pilipino maid friends would care about my existence in a magazine.Hah. Maybe they can look at Colin Wee instead.

On that note, style: is my favorite local magazine ever but I’ve stop buying since Daniel left. In my opinion it was more personal then and in every Editor’s Note column he wrote, I feel like I was part of style: journey. Now, stories are getting better, very informative and most importantly current.

I beg you to buy the latest copy of style: and make it the best-selling issue ever! (Don’t forget to email style:, you’re buying because of us, not Joanne Peh. Haha) I’ve managed to convince my mum to get all the mature audiences to buy! (they might get another one if it comes with a free gift!)

Finally thanks to the style: team; Sharon, Lena, Leef and the friends who made it happen, Carlos and Nisa! Also, X-wen did a post on our feature and OneSixtyNotepad on her blog! Lastly thanks to Ridhwan, you’re the best thing ever! Yes, I'm really sweet, i know.

Dinie.
