COUTURE FALL 2010.11 HIGHLIGHTS.

Chanel Haute Couture F/W 10.11 Paris

I heard Karl tends to lose things—along with his car keys, I think he misplaced his sanity too—come on, we only care about the giant Styrofoam lion or the huge imported iceberg more than anything else! There’s so much hate for the Chanel Couture this season. I guess us minions have to walk by a Chanel Boutique in order to appreciate those pieces.

Givenchy Haute Couture F/W 10.11 Paris

You know it’s a hit when the new owner’s wife of Harrods bought the entire Givenchy Haute Couture collection. Tisci tops his collection once again with ten spectacular looks. Tisci showed modern couture; wearable, intricate and beyond exceptional. Alongside with seasoned models, former assistant to Tisci modeled for couture collection this season. The house of Givency gets props for the progressive approach for casting a transgender.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again— we’ll never live to see another amazing collection like we did in 2005. I didn’t like the literal translation of flowers on a human form. Some of the pieces were adorable sans makeup but it feels like déjà vu. Don’t the sight of the finale gown makes you want to puke tulle?

KELVIN KONOPLYASOVA.

There can be only one person in Singapore who could spot a Jil Sander exclusive amongst a sea of models that would be Laila. She first spotted Konoplyasova at the DKNY Spring 2010 show and then I met ‘Kususha’ backstage at Stradivarius South-East Asia debut and while shopping at Uniqlo. She was kind to stop for a photo and I chatted with her; she was shy when we discussed her walking for Nina Ricci and Chanel. I really like her, I thought she had an unconventional ‘Tilda’ features and her proportions are simply model perfect. She'll be here for ahwile to do her ports, we'll definitely see more of her.

CHANEL F/W 2010.11.

No one ever discuss a Chanel collection right? Wrong. In fact we’re doing it right now. Discussing Chanel is another thing but saying ‘other’ things besides how amazing the collection was, is suicide and you’ll be condemned by the industry forever because Chanel is Chic no matter what. Chanel is beautiful no matter what I say because words can’t bring her down. Chanel is beautiful in every single way. Yes, words can’t bring her down.

I asked an Editor of a certain magazine, “Did you like Chanel? Just Wondering” The response was a swift “I don’t dare discuss.” Amazing isn’t it?

This might surprise you but apart from the Chewbacca chic happening, I liked this collection. The presentation of the clothes was over-the-top, as always with glacial ice flew from god knows where I don’t really care. If Karl Lagerfeld had excluded two of his bitch boys in serious mess of fur from the show, I would have liked it even more.

A QUOTE BY KARL.

It’s the first time in my whole career I’ve done a collection without black or navy. There’s not one gold button.

Not one but there are three?

So that tie is a white tie pretending to be a black tie?

Oh I see.

I find it unbelievable that my dearest (umm I still have hopes for a tweet jacket to be delivered on my doorstep okay!) Uncle Karl had to mention the buttons, out of all things. It sounded as if Chanel Couture was revolutionary for err, not using a gold button.

My point is, how does replacing silver button instead of using gold different? Especially against a gold reflective fabric, doesn’t it makes the silver buttons turned gold?

KARL LAGERFELD IS NEVER HAPPY ANYWAYS.

Who wants to read on a sunday? Not me. Enjoy this documentary shot in 2000, directed by Gero von Boehm. (Thank god it wasn't directed by Karl Lagerfeld himself, phew. Have u seen that Paris-Shanghai movie?)

CHANEL PRE-FALL 2010.

Like any other Chanel shows, I don’t dare discuss its collection mainly because of its unique process and handwork. But i'll say: This was the most ‘aesthetically pleasing’ Chanel collection I’ve ever seen in seasons.

While the Coco Chanel short film, ‘Paris-Shanghai’ directed by Karl Lagerfeld was a major flop (Picture Baptiste Giabiconi as a Chinese immigrant) and provided us with good laughs, the collection was nothing like that.

Staged on a really large barge, the floating venue anchored at the heart of the Huangpu River overlooking the famous skyscraper. The only thing missing was Daul.

COUTURE FALL 2009 HIGHLIGHTS.

We’ll ever see anything like Christian Dior Fall Couture 2006 ever again--It was the most impressive collection to date. To see no Anna on Couture week and seeing no red at Valentino, this season was disappointing.

Lacroix was expected not to show this season, but he did. A shows with a story to tell but it was mediocrity that he presented.
Im baffled, Givenchy looking a little like Theysken, the only thing that could relate to Tisci’s esthetic was studs and more metal studs to follow. Speaking of copycats, the obvious was Elie Saab with an all-white show, it was beautiful. Karl Lagerfeld did that at the same exact location where Saab showed his Fall Couture.

I love what Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli did at Valentino. The workmanship that went to each individual piece was impressive, despite it not looking anything like Valentino. Yes, I won’t discuss Chanel.

BEAR LAGERFELD.

While i will measure success with the number of Tods loafers i have, Uncle Karl decide to do so by immortalizing himself as a bear. The Karl Bear, a collaboration of Karl Lagerfeld and German stuffed toy maker Steiff has made it's way to Singapore. Of the 2,500 produced, only 2 Karl Bears are available for the Singapore buyers. Made of black silk cravat and Swarowski crystals, it cost SGD 2498 a pop. Like any other 'innovative' goods by Uncle Karl, it pretty much doesn't make sense for the ordinary people- Like me.

The Karl Bears are available exclusively at Tanglin Mall, one of which are being displayed in Millenia Walk.

CHANEL CRUISE 2010.

Just because it's Lagerfeld, we only have the nicest thing to say. There's always an injection of tackiness to every collection, I've never liked it as a whole, neither do i like it as a garment on its own. I'm talking about designs, not presentation, hair or make-up. Hopefully one day I will understand why a lame' dress is fit for a cruise collection.

Join in the discussion here.
