Dior Homme S/S 09 Paris

Foremostly known as Dior Monsieur, Dior’s menswear line has been under Hedi Slimane’s creativity and expertise charge since fall 2001. Hedi Slimane cited his inspiration as the “Electroscene of Berlin” and his galactic love and passion for the exploration of Rock, introducing svelte slim-cut suits and reintroducing modern dandyism into his clothes of today. Following suit the build of Hedi’s eventual replacement, Kris Van Assche has been balancing expectations.

Van Assche’s third attempt to keep up with Hedi’s exploration of male sex and grunge went badly amiss. Volume was introduced in this collection resulting in a loaded and the unexpected in comparison to the normally slim-cut silhouette of Dior Homme Collection. Sequined bottoms, the overly-done pieces and accessories such the glasses deserve approval and commendation. A collection that left Kanye West in awe but overall, Van Assche need not let our overwhelming expectation pressurize his ability to perform as a designer.
